jyoti-dogra-in-residence
Darakht by Jyoti Dogra - In Residence

A woman walks the forest. As she walks, unknown paths open up inside her - half dream, half real, broken narratives the body remembers, and the inarticulate that it holds as it remembers. Darakht is an exercise in holding and letting go - a pink birthday frock, a snow-covered mountain, a mound of dry leaves, freshly baked scones covered in snow, a blade of grass that knows a secret, a hand that remembers a bedtime story, a tree that remembers a man, a woman waiting to come in. How do we make sense of the world that offers us a deep sense of oneness at one end and endless distances at the other end, time that passes by and time that stands still, infinite happiness at one end and infinite grief at the other. Darakht explores the body's vulnerability and its tenacity, its exhaustion and its exhilaration, as it moves through grief and miraculously arrives at joy, in a forest that is both real and metaphorical.

Cast and Credits:
Light design - Ankit Pandey
Lights Operation - Yash Potnis
Sound Design - Kaizad Gherda
Sound Operation - Himanshu Borker
Costume Design - Shilpi Aggarwal
Production and Stage - Himanshu Borkar
Writing, Direction and Performance - Jyoti Dogra
Produced by G5A
Supported by BNP Paribas
Additional Support by Austrian Science Fund

A special thanks to Jyoti's teachers: Jola Cynkutis and Khalid Tyabji,
Arno Boehler, Susanne Granzer at University of Music and Performing Arts,Vienna, Michele Laissue, Hemant Advani, Shipra Singh Rana, Akhil Wable, Shambhavi Singh, Oddbird Foundation, Nikhil Mehta, Black Box Okhla, Neel Chaudhari, Jai Prakash Kumar, Ambika Kamal, Vishal Dhagade, Seema Bhatia and Rehaan Engineer.

Schedule:

November 09
18:00 - Workshop

November 10
17:00 - Open Rehearsal

November 11
19:30 - In Conversation

November 12
19:00 - Premiere

November 13
19:00 - Show #02

November 14
17:00 - Show #03
20:30 - Show #04

November 15
17:00 - Show #05
20:30 - Show #06

G5A produces and co-creates interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work that is bold, experimental, and just.

In Residence, a production series, creates space for practitioners to explore their craft, form, and expression to consistently and rigorously refine their practice.
